The nearby Shropshire Hills are popular with walkers and the town is an excellent base for exploring Shropshire and the Welsh Marches.
A small museum "The House on Crutches" with exhibits of local history is located on the High Street.
The castle that gives its name to the town no longer exists, though a small section of wall can be seen on Castle Street.
Bishop's Castle has an excellent reputation for quality accommodation and traditional pubs with two "real ale" breweries based in the town, no doubt eager to quench the thirst of the many walkers following the nearby Offas Dyke path!
